Wedding photography Kettering Park Hotel - Lynsey and Gary are married!

It was another lovely sunny summer's day on Friday as Lynsey and Gary married at Kettering Park Hotel.

Lynsey looked fabulous in a bridal gown from Courtyard Bridalwear, and Gary didn't wear the shirt that he had worn for their pre wedding portrait session! Seriously, they looked a fabulous couple and we took advantage of the late afternoon early evening light for some photos of the two of them in the colourful gardens of the hotel.

I left them shortly after their first dance to the talented Danger Mouse, aka Countdown to California.

Wedding photography Leicester - Alix and Mat are married!

Alix and Mat have know each other half their lives, having met when they were at university. They were married yesterday surrounded by family and friends, including several from their university days, in a lovely ceremony at The City Rooms, Leicester.

At the end of the speeches there was a bit of a family tradition as the newly weds were serenaded by Mat's Uncle Ralph on the ukelele.

Cerys and Tim's wedding today at the magnificent Prestwold Hall was our first there, and what a fabulous wedding venue! A gorgeous ceremony room and beautiful landscaped gardens for photos after the ceremony.

Cerys looked stunning in a very elegant Jenny Packham bridal gown, and Tim, along with his new father-in-law and best man, gave one of the most accomplished speeches that we have heard this year.

After the wedding breakfast we took advantage of the softer light to go round the gardens with Cerys and Tim.

Katherine and Rob married today in a lovely ceremony at St Michael and All Angels Church, Hallaton, with their reception following at Rushton Hall.

Their guests had travelled for as far away as Syndney, Texas and Michegan, and they were entertained by some eloquent and memorable speeches, which included some interesting photos of Rob during best man James' speech!

We left them just after their dancing feet had come to life. Here's an early taster of their fabulous day:

Wedding photography Weekley and Rockingham Forest Hotel - Victoria and Howard are married!

I have known Victoria and Howard for a little while, through our membership of BNI, and I was delighted when they asked us to photograph their wedding.

They were married today at the picturesque St Mary's Church at Weekley, near Kettering, as another glorious day saw a lovely ceremony as Victoria and Howard were married by the very accomodating Reverend Canon Giles Godbar - who, quite by coincidence, married Hollie and Ian yesterday!

Victoria arrived in a beautiful vintage 1928 Citreon, which then took the couple to their wedding reception at Rockingham Forest Hotel. After their wedding breakfast and speeches we disappeared around the hotel with Victoria and Howard for some photos before they were joined by a number of familiar (to me) BNI faces, some I hadn't seen since yesterday's wedding!

Wedding photography Geddington and Dovecote Farm - Hollie and Ian are married!

Hollie and Ian were married on Friday at St Mary Magdalene Church, Geddington, and their reception followed at Dovecote Farm, at nearby Newton.

Hollie arrived at the church in a fabulous horse drawn carriage, courtesy of Townies Carriage Masters, which then took the newly weds on to their reception where their wedding breakfast included enormous portions of pavlova - with lovely fresh strawberries from the farm. Delicious!

Rockingham Castle wedding photography - Emma and Richard are married!

It was lovely to be back at Rockingham Castle yesterday as Emma and Richard were married.

Despite the constant blustery wind and the threat of rain it stayed dry throughout the day as Emma and her bridal party arrived in a a fabuous horse drawn carriage, from Waldburg Shires, prior to their wedding in the Great Hall in the castle.

After their wedding Emma and Richard went for a ride around the grounds in the carriage while many of their guests took a tour of the castle.

We got out round the gardens with the two of them after their wedding breakfast.

Quenby Hall wedding fayre

Wedding photography Lowick and Lyvedon New Bield - Liz and Colin are married!

Another gloriously bright sunny day saw Liz and Colin's wedding at The Church of St Peter, Lowick, on Saturday where it was a pleasure to see the Rev'd Ian Lovett conduct the ceremony.

Not to be outdone by Colin and best man Kevin's arrival in a hotrod, Liz's eight bridesmaids had arrived in a coach (well, okay, a very stretched limo from Bridal Carraiges of Northamptonshire - had to put that link in as owners John and Amanda were guests at the wedding!). Their reception followed in a marquee at the remarkably roofless Lyvedon New Bield, with it's original canals, prospect mounts and terraces.

After being were well looked after for their wedding breakfast by Darren and his team from Garley Catering (another shameless mention I have to make as there are some fine pictures of food on Darren's website. Can't think who by!!), we went out into the grounds, over the water and up onto the mounts and terraces for some photos.

Wedding photography Sutton Bassett and Rockingham Castle - Claire and Adrian are married!

Claire and Adrian married yesterday at All Saints Chuch, Sutton Bassett, a lovely little picture postcard pretty church that, although very close to home, I've never been into before.

After their ceremony they were whisked away in a fabulous MkII Jaguar to their reception at the always magnificent Rockingham Castle.

Despite some dark clouds threatening at times, it was a gloriously sunny May day, and after their wedding breakfast we went out around the gardens of the castle, when the bright sun had gone down and there was a less harsh light.

Vintage style shoot at Rothley Station

Yesterday I met up with fellow photographers Sarah Vivienne, Carole Kelly and Richard Shephard and we had a fabuous vintage style shoot at Rothley Station, one of the stations on the Great Central Railway.

Gaby was our model, and she did a fantastic job modelling a couple of gorgeous vintage dresses and a wedding dress, and braving the steam and smoke from an obliging train that stopped for a while at the platform.

Hair and make up was expertly done by Rachel Liney, fabulous vintage props provided by Nicola Mason of Eve Lilly, and mouth watering cup cakes from Melody Milverton of Melody Cakes.

Rosa Elena and Nigel married yesterday in an intimate ceremony with 40 of their friends and family at Kettering Park Hotel.

Their was a real international flavour to their wedding. Rosa Elena is from Mexico, and a guest had travelled over from America, but Nigel had flown in from Australia (where they will be starting their new life together later in the year) only a day or two before their wedding! In fact he's heading back their very shortly as the 'advance party', with Rosa Elena following later in the year.

And this was echoed on their wedding cake, in the shape of a suitcase with Nigel and Rosa Elena and their respective flags on the top!

Wedding photography Hothorpe Hall - Liz and Jonny are married!

Liz and Jonny were married at Hothorpe Hall today in a day filled with sunshine (lots), tears (a few), and laughter (lots and lots).

Their wedding ceremony was at noon, followed by drinks and photos, their wedding breakfast, and then a late afternoon blessing conducted by Rev'd Barbara Routley. And plenty of time to spend with them after their blessing and before their evening guests arrived.

These few 'sneak peak' images are just a hint of their day; from the little touches (the bow on the back of Liz's lovely wedding gown, Jonny's Superman cufflinks and 'quiet' shirt), to the poignant looks (Liz and her father as they came in to the ceremony), and the sheer exuberance of Liz's laugh.

Thanks to all at Hothorpe Hall and toastmaster extraordinaire, Alan Cockayne.

Congratulations Liz and Jonny! I can't believe that you were that camera shy couple I photographed eight days ago!!

A little bit of learning

No matter how skilled or otherwise you are at photography there are so many opportunities to learn and improve your craft, whether attending structured workshops, getting together with other like minded photographers, or simply getting out there and taking pictures.

On the more structured side of things I had two fabulous days, one after the other, last month.

Firstly, an MPA (Master Photographers Association) regional meeting one Monday afternoon saw a seminar led by Louise Sumner, with Louise directing a vintage styled shoot around an old bus station in Nottingham.

Straight after that meeting it was down to Bristol for a day long speedlight mastery workshop the very next day with Damien Lovegrove where, along with three other delegates, we learn a lot more about off camera flash and specifically speedlights triggered by pocket wizards. And lots, lots more which I've been putting to practice to start introducing into some of my shoots.

The following are a few images from the two sessions, firstly around the bus station in Nottingham ,and then from the next day's workshop around the docks in Bristol:

Wow, what a fabulously sunny day yesterday was as Deborah and Mark were married at Kettering Park Hotel. It was probably the warmest day of the year so far, quite a contrast from their pre-wedding portrait session the week before Christmas when there was snow on the ground and the temperature was -5!

They were surrounded by family and friends as Deborah was given away by her son Bobby, and then they and their guests were entertained by a Scottish Piper while they had drinks in the garden.

We snuck outside with them after their wedding breakfast to take advantage of the falling sun which made for some lovely backlighting. Here’s a little preview of their day:

Wedding photography Oakham and Rockingham Castle - Lucy and Michael are married!

Lucy and Michael married earlier today at Lucy's old school chapel - Oakham School Chapel - with their reception following at the wonderful Rockingham Castle.

Lucy looked stunning in an Alan Hannah bridal gown as they were married by the Reverend Alex Aldous, who then swiftly changed to drive them down to Rockingham Castle in a beautiful vintage Jaguar!

We had the pleasure of working for the first time with their videographer, Barry Weare, and thankfully, along with Barry we had been tipped off about the surprise that was to come part way through their drinks reception as Lucy, Michael and their guests were entertained by a very skillful aerobatics display.

Here's an early taster of their day which, hopefully, they'll see before they fly off to Brazil for their honeymoon:

The bloggity, bloggity, blog has been a bit neglected of late!

Rest assured that there are plenty of things going on at Nigel Ord-Smith photography, with a few developments that will become obvious over the next month or two (you'll have to watch this space!).

Wedding bookings are really taking off; lots of lovely wedding bookings for this year, and growing each week, and a good number of bookings already for next year. So, if you're getting married and haven't yet booked your photographer do get in touch for an informal chat, especially if it's a summer Saturday for 2012.

There's also been a bit of training, attending seminars, and meeting with venues and suppliers, both regular and new.

(Note to self, must post more regularly, with some images!)

Wedding photography Kettering Park Hotel - Kate and Rob are married!

Yesterday saw our first wedding of the year as Kate and Rob were married at Kettering Park Hotel. They met at a football match, and are both ardent supporters of Leicester City (ha!), so a double celebration as Leicester won 4-1 yesterday!

It was blowing a bit of a hooley outside, not really ideal for photographs outside, so video light and flash got plenty of work inside the hotel.

Helena and Daniel's wedding featured in R Magazine

Last year was a fabulous year for Nigel Ord-Smith Photography. We photographed some gorgeous weddings for some lovely couples at some rather nice venues. It is an absolute privilege to be trusted with the responsibility of capturing a bride and groom’s special day, and 2011 is already shaping up to be even better.

So, rather belatedly, here’s wishing all family, friends, and clients - current and future – a very happy and prosperous new year.

And a special happy new year too to the couples, quite a few newly engaged, who were at the bridal showcase at Hothorpe Hall today!

Winter wedding photography at Rushton Hall - Carol and James are married!

Today saw the Christmas Eve winter wedding of Carol and James. They were married at Rushton Hall, surrounded by their nearest and dearest. After the wedding ceremony everybody gamely went out into the snow covered courtyard for photos and, after thawing out over drinks, Carol and James were coaxed outside for a few more photos of the two of them.

Then, oh so civilised, afternoon tea in The Library, where tables were named after the reindeer, and their wedding cake was tiers of snow covered Christmas puddings.

Wedding photography Hothorpe Hall - Lucy and Richard are married!

I was delighted to be able to step in and help out Lucy and Richard, who were married today at Hothorpe Hall. Their original photographer hadn't been able to get over from Ireland and, as Hothorpe Hall is just down the road for me, I was able to step in at the last minute.

Normally I've met the bride and groom several times before their wedding, sometimes I've met their parents and the bridal party too, and really got to know them. I met Lucy and Richard for the first time this morning and they were a joy to work with!

After their wedding ceremony everybody came outside for a group picture in the sub zero temperatures. Lucy and Richard were troopers and stayed outside for a little wander round the grounds where we got some lovely images against the snow clad Hothorpe Hills.

I left them just as they went into their wedding breakfast, but here's a little taster of their fabulous day (special thanks to Toastmaster Alan Cockayne for taking the group shot while I was upstairs taking an image of the whole wedding party):

Guests travelled through the snow from as far away as Bideford and Southampton for Gaby and Michael's wedding on Saturday. They were married at Oakham Castle with their reception following at Barnsdale Lodge and, thankfully, the weather had eased to ensure that everybody arrived safely.

Danielle and Ben were married yesterday in the lovely surroundings of Halstead House, marrying in the Quail Shed, with their reception following in the Opera House.

They had a lovely bright day, with some fabulous autumn colours, particularly down by the lake where we caught a few moments alone with them.

Pet photography

Last week a good friend of mine, the award winning pet photographer Paul Walker, of Paws Pet Photography, was down for two days running a pet photography workshop.

I had arranged the pet models at a variety of locations around Market Harborough; two lovely dogs in East Langton, a stables visit to Naseby - where there were horses, dogs, and cats, plus turkeys and partridges (!) - and three Jack Russells in Market Harborough on the afternoon of the second day.

Watching Paul at work and the way he demonstrated his control and understanding of the pets was an excellent practical demonstration of his skills.

As I had arranged all of the pet models, and as they're all local and I knew I would have the opportunity of revisiting the locations with the owners, I didn't take too many images, but the following are a sample of some of the variety, including 'the dog whisperer' and 'the horse whisperer' in action (!):

And not forgetting the turkeys. The next image was taken whilst in the turkey and chicken run, and the image after whilst sitting amongst some 50 or 60 eight week old turkeys in their pen!

Tuesday afternoon, with the lovely Setters Esme and Tilley, was a washout with hard driving rain, so I went back a few days later to photograph them:

Heather and Adrian were married yesterday in a lovely ceremony at Shearsby Bath, just south of Leicester.

There was a little twist just before their ceremony when it was announced that their registrar hadn't arrived. But it had all been planned as Adrian's cousin, Karen, stepped forward to officiate. Karen's a registrar in Cambridge and it had all been arranged as a surprise for Heather and Adrian's family and guests!

Heather looked fabulous in a wedding dress that she had made herself, complete with a gold cloak, and their five lovely bridesmaids included their daughters Georgia and Bethany.

They weren't intending to have a first dance, instead they had planned a last dance, but they were encouraged into a first dance before being joined on the dancefloor by their guests:

Fashion shoot for WOW magazine

Rebecca and Daniel's fabulous wedding entrance!

Back in late July we blogged about Rebecca and Daniel's fabulous wedding at Quinton House in Northampton.

It was a wedding with lots of unique touches - a black and white Hollywood theme, an ice cream van, marching drummers, space hoppers, and the bridal party danced down the aisle at the beginning of the ceremony!

Our images could only capture a hint of their entrance

but a friend of theirs was there to capture it on video, and you can see the arrival of the bridal party, and the British way of doing things, here.

Caroline and Michael had a lovely wedding on a bright and sunny Saturday, marrying at the church of St Mary the Virgin in Great Brington, with their reception following at The Three Swans Hotel in Market Harborough.

Considering the weather on the Friday, and on the Sunday afterwards, they must have had fingers and toes crossed because Saturday's weather was glorious when I arrived at their splendid church and continued that way until I left them just as they started their wedding
breakfast.

Grace and Michael were married in the luxurious surroundings of Hambleton Hall on Thursday, surrounded by family and friends, some having travelled from as far afield as Australia.

Grace wore a gorgeous ruby bridal gown, while Michael and his best man Geoff were resplendent in their kilts.

Ever since the age of three Helena has been planning her wedding. Helena's father, Charles, shared that with the guests during his speech as Helena married Daniel in a lovely wedding today at the magnificent Rushton Hall.

Helena looked stunning in her Maggie Sottero wedding dress, and her face was a picture as she walked in to the ceremony in the Drawing Room. After a little rain and a veritable downpour of confetti, the sun shone and the skies were blue as we went around the grounds with Helena and Daniel before they joined their guests for their wedding breakfast and some memorable speeches.

Wedding photography Kibworth - Alexandra and Steve are married!

Alexandra and Steve were married yesterday at St Wilfred's Church, Kibworth Beauchamp, and their reception followed at the wonderful restaurant, Boboli (which does have some fabulous canvases on it's walls!!), also in Kibworth.

After their wedding ceremony and photos at the church, Alexandra and Steve were whisked off for a drive in the picturesque local countryside in their wedding car, a beautiful black 1934 three and a half litre Bentley, while their guests headed straight to Boboli for Prosecco and canapes.

We followed their car for some photos with just the two of them. Then it was back to Boboli for their wedding breakfast.

Stephanie and Jon's wedding featured in R Magazine

Stephanie and Jon's lovely wedding at the Tythe Barn, Bicester, is featured in the current edition of R Magazine, the September bridal edition.

Keeley and Ben's wedding on Friday was their dream wedding in so many ways.

Keeley had always dreamt of having her wedding in a castle, and they held their reception at the fabulous Rockingham Castle after marrying at St Leonard's Church, just below the castle walls. And, according to Ben's speech, he had never dreamt that eleven years, and a few months, weeks and days (Ben can confirm the exact numbers!) after their first kiss he would be marrying Keeley!

And what a fabulous day they had. The sun shone, so no need for big white brollies that we've used for the last few Fridays, and I don't think they stopped smiling all day.

Wedding photography Kilworth House - Maureen and Richard are married!

Maureen and Richard had a lovely, intimate lunchtime wedding at the glorious Kilworth House today, surrounded by family and friends, some having travelled (driven, even!) from as far afield as Jordan

When I arrived Maureen and her bridesmaids were getting ready in the luxurious Marlow Room, which made a lovely setting for some photos both before and after their wedding (and a nice setting for a shot of Maureen's shoes!), and their ceremony followed in the Wordsworth Room with it's beautiful domed ceiling.

Another Friday and another fabulous wedding at Rockingham Castle as this week saw the wedding of Sarah and Jon at St Andrew’s Church, Whissendine, with their reception following at Rockingham Castle.

After the wind and rain of the last few days it turned out to be a glorious day, with lovely late afternoon early evening light for a trip round the superb gardens at Rockingham with Sarah and Jon after their wedding breakfast.

Wedding photography Kettering - Natalie and John are married!

Natalie and John were married on Saturday at Kettering Park Hotel, surrounded by family and friends including their three little daughters who were the 'pretty in pink' bridesmaids.

It was another mixed day of weather but, between heavy bursts of rain, we managed to get out into the gardens with the whole wedding party and again later with Natalie and John.

Wedding photography Hothorpe Hall - Deborah and Neil are married!

Yesterday it was back to Hothorpe Hall for the wedding of Deborah and Neil. They were one of the first couples to book us for their 2010 wedding when we met them there at the beginning of last year, and we were delighted to join them to photograph their wedding.

Their preparation, wedding ceremony and reception were all held on site at Hothorpe, a real bonus with the weather yesterday. And we were fortunate enough to be able to get outside between the torrential rain for their photographs.

Wedding photography Rockingham Castle - Anna and Stuart are married!

Despite the weather not being at it's best (an understatement to say the least!) Anna and Stuart were a picture of relaxed calm and happiness at their wedding yeterday as they were married at St Leonard's Church, Rockingham.

The sun shone during their service (!) but they emerged from the church to driving rain for the walk up to Rockingham Castle where they held their reception. Big white brollies to the rescue!

Thankfully, there were a few breaks in the weather so that we could get everybody outside for a picture of them with their whole wedding party. And after their wedding breakfast we even managed to venture up into the gardens for some lovely images of the two of them as the next wave of dark, rain laden clouds approached.

We had the great pleasure of photographing Zoe and Kevin's wedding today (yesterday really, but it's late!). They were married at All Saints Church, Wigston, with the most accommodating Rev'd Richard Curtis officiating (thank you, Richard), with their reception following at the sumptuous Kilworth House Hotel.

Zoe looked absolutely gorgeous, in a David Fielden bridal gown with a pair of (bliss!) Jimmy Choos! Kevin scubbed up quite neatly too!

Even with just a quick run through of their images it was hard to limit this sneak peak to twelve, but here goes:

Yesterday saw another lovely wedding, the marriage of Leanne and Charles. They married at All Saints Church in Rushton, with their reception following just down the road at Rushton Hall.

We started with bridal prep, joining Leanne and her bridesmaids, before meeting Charles and the 'men in suits' at the church. Then it was on to the magnificent Rushton Hall where we went for a wander around the grounds with them after the wedding breakfast.

We had a fabulous day on Friday as Katie and Aird were married at St Nicholas Church, Little Bowden, with their reception following at Hothorpe Hall.

Not to be outdone by the gorgeous bride and bridesmaids, Aird and his best men - his brothers Alec and Ian - were resplendent in kilts.

On Tuesday evening I headed down to Essex for Sadrina and Mike's wedding yesterday. They were married at Holy Cross Church, Felstead, and their reception followed at the award winning Leez Priory.

Sadrina wore a gorgeous Caroline Castigliano wedding gown, and spoilt me with two pairs of shoes! And there was a sweet bar (especially for the ring shot!!).

Wedding photography Quinton House, Northampton - Rebecca and Daniel are married!

Wow! Rebecca and Daniel had a day to remember yesterday as they were married at the magnificent Quinton House in Northampton.

They had so many fun elements - the bridal party danced down the aisle, there was an ice cream van, marching drummers, space hoppers, a sweet bar, and the marquee was decorated in a black and white Hollywood theme complete with a backdrop of Hollywood stars for us to photograph the guests against as they went into the wedding breakfast.

The few early favourites that follow give just a little hint of their day:

Now, I have to confess that when I meet couples for the first time for a wedding consultation I usually, just slightly tongue in cheek, hint that if we're photographing the bridal preparations I like to spend a good half an hour with the brides shoes. Daniel was looking particularly dapper (said I'd get that word in!) yesterday, and excelled himself with his shoes. I can't let this become a habit!

Wedding Photography Rockingham Castle - Alex and Nick are married!

Alex and Nick had a lovely wedding yesterday at St Leonard's Church, Rockingham, and their reception followed at the overlooking Rockingham Castle.

The overcast skies of earlier in the day cleared to give a lovely warm late afternoon/early evening light and we took advantage of this to wander round the gorgeous gardens after the wedding breakfast to get some pictures of the two of them.

A hint of Santorini

Whilst our recent week in Santorini was a great break - with temperatures in, I'd guess, the mid 30's each day - I did take a camera (or two!).

It wasn't the right time of year (lightwise) to photograph some of the iconic images of Santorini that you have probably seen in calendars and postcards, so I concentrated on abstracts, patterns, textures and colours which, apart from one or two obvious images, could have been anywhere with a similar climate (there is a cunning reason for this).

So here is a small selection of my favourites, the first two, perhaps, a little bit more obviously Santorini:

These were the winding steps down to the hotel next to ours. What a fabulous view each day!

What's a Greek urn, as the old joke goes? Well, this pot was just outside of the steps where we stayed and I took one or two images of it in different light. This is my favourite:

I loved the simple pattern of these white steps and the shadow in Oai:

Wedding photography Barrow Upon Soar and Rothley Court - Sandra and Ben are married!

It's always nice when we are recommended, especially by a previous bride and groom. Sandra and Ben were guests at Lisa and Tristan's wedding in December, recommended to us by them (many thanks, Lisa and Tristan!), and were married yesterday at Holy Trinity Church in Barrow Upon Soar, with their reception following at Rothley Court Hotel.

Sandra and Ben must be congratulated on pulling off their fabulous wedding as they made all their arrangements for it in a little under two months!

Just back (early hours of this morning, yawn!) from a fantastic week relaxing in Santorini, one of the Greek islands in The Cyclades.

Anna and Stuart - take II

Anna and Stuart get married in a few weeks time at the fabulous Rockingham Castle, where we'll be photographing a few weddings this year.

We met up recently to talk through the details of their big day before heading over to the canal basin in Market Harborough for a few relaxed portraits.

This was the second portrait session with Anna and Stuart and, with weddings booked sufficiently far enough in advance, it's really recommended that we try and have two sessions. It really helps us get to know each other and get used to working together before the big day.

Last summer I posted some images of the fabulous food at The Boot Room Eaterie in Leicester and The Three Swans Hotel in Market Harborough.

I went back to The Three Swans recently to photograph some of their new seasonal dishes and, believe me, they do taste as good as they look!

And a couple of weeks later I went over to The John White Golf Club in Rushden to photograph some dishes for Darren Garley, of Garley Catering Services. Again, some lovely dishes to photograph and the ones that I tasted were very good indeed!

Wedding Photography Rushton Hall - Amy and Paul are married!

Amy and Paul had a fabulous wedding at Rushton Hall today, surrounded by family and friends who had travelled from all over the world to join them. The bride and groom had come over from Syndey for the wedding and guests had travelled from Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Spain and, apparently, the Isle of Wight (!) to join them.

And it really was a lovely day; lots of emotion, 'real' speeches (no hint of internet wedding speech cliches), and lots of fun and laughter. Alan, the Toastmaster, rightly pointed out that you could tell that it was a fun wedding from all the laughter and noise during the wedding breakfast!

When I first met Amy and Paul last year to discuss their wedding they promised to bring me a lovely bottle of Australian wine and they were true to their word as I was presented with a superb bottle of Shiraz. Wedding Photography Medbourne - Ellie and Andrew are married!

The weather didn't dampen Ellie and Andrew's spirits today as they were married at The Church of St Giles, in Medbourne, with many of the guests on Andrew's side travelling over from South Africa.

Ellie and Andrew faced a downpour of rain and confetti as they left the church to lead the procession to their reception in the village, and the weather wasn't too kind to us for most of the day, but we did manage to get outside with them for a wander back around the village after the wedding breakfast.

It was nice to see some familiar faces. Ellie was a guest at the church last year at Lucie and Chris' wedding, and Lucie was there today. Her father was also there as he kindly drove Ellie to the church in his lovely Rolls Royce. And Ellie and Andrew's vicar was Stephen Bishop, who also officiated at Marina and Stuart's wedding in February.

We left them a little while after their first dance, with everybody enjoying a reel or two to their fine ceilidh band, Knitters Jig. We were exhausted just watching!

The recent portrait session with Carol and James emphasised why it is so useful holding a pre wedding portrait session as Carol was just a tiny bit nervous beforehand. But once we'd got into the swing of the session - which we held at East Carlton Park - she turned out to be a natural!

Whoops, I've been long overdue an update to this blog but April was one of those crazy hectic months.

In between lots of pre-wedding portrait sessions and a good number of portraits over the Easter break I managed to fit in four days training at the fantastic Julia Boggio High in Wimbledon (the cupcakes were divine...!). A fabulous four days, and lots of ideas and plans to put into practice.

Plus, lots of wedding consultations and lots of bookings with some lovely couples that we're looking forward to working with this year and next.

I met up with Katherine and Rob at the end of last week for an early pre wedding portrait session.

They've booked us to photograph their wedding in June 2011 and we met up for an initial session to 'break the ice'.

Kelmarsh Hall wedding fair

Kelmarsh Hall's wedding fair was originally scheduled for late February but it was cancelled due to the snowy weather.

Yesterday's weather couldn't have been more different as it stayed bright and sunny all day and, dare I say it, nice and warm too!

Wedding Photography Oakham and Barnsdale Lodge - Lisa and James are married!

We had a lovely day yesterday at Lisa and James' wedding.

They were married at All Saints Church, Oakham, with their reception following at Barnsdale Lodge.

It was a very special double celebration as Tabitha Rose, Lisa and James' beautiful baby daughter, was christened half way through their service.

It was almost a quadruple celebration as Lucy, their flower girl, was 10 yesterday and Laura, one of Lisa's bridesmaids, was 21 on Friday.

Wedding Photography Ashley - Marina and Stuart are married!

Marina and Stuart had a lovely winter wedding yesterday; crisp snow outside, a beautiful church decorated with candles, and their reception venue - The Big Barn at Ashley, near Market Harborough - dressed as a winter wonderland!

Their church was the 13th century St Mary The Virgin, in Ashley, Northants, which has beautiful coloured paintings on the walls and ceilings.

At their reception, guests were entertained by a magnificent firework display and then danced away the evening to a fabulous band.

Rebecca and Daniel are busy planning their summer wedding and I met up with them this morning to break the ice with some portraits and for a catch up on how their plans are coming along.

Bridal shoot at Hampton by Hilton

Earlier in the week I had another bridal shoot, this time at the Hampton by Hilton Hotel in Corby.

Inside the hotel has some great contemporary furniture and this gave the opportunity for a bit of fun with our 'bride and groom', as they were photographed in a variety of environments around the hotel. They were photographed against modern wall art, in the corridors, in a bedroom, on the tables (!), under a bulkhead light in the stairwell, and even in the lift!!

So, for any couples getting married at the hotel there's a real opportunity to get some amazing pictures of you on your big day.

Bridal shoot at Ladywood

Ladywood is a former hunting lodge near Oakham in Rutland and, with it's extensive grounds and elegant interior, is a superb location for exclusive weddings and events.

Hannah, of Hand Maid Wedding and Events, provides a bespoke wedding and events planning service and looks after all of the weddings at Ladywood.

Yesterday we all battled through the snowly lanes as I met up with Hannah, Carole and Debbie from Wedding Belles (Kibworth) - who provided the gorgeous wedding gowns - and Adele and Ed for a bridal shoot.

Adele modelled two lovely wedding gowns, the first an 'Ellis Bridals' gown and the second the stunning 'Rose' by 'Maureen Myring Kesterton'. Ed's outfit was provided by Christopher Scotney, Leicester.

Family and friends braved the snowy conditions today to join Emma and David as they were married at St Mary Magdalene Church, Geddington, with their reception following at Rushton Hall.

To say that the weather was changeable is probably a bit of an understatement. One minute the church looked an absolute picture bathed in bright sunshine, the next minute the snow was falling and it all looked a little bit like winter!

At Rushton Hall we managed to tempt Emma and David outside for some lovely images in the snowy surroundings, asking them to think of thier lovely warm honeymoon destination!

Rozz and Iain's wedding in R Magazine

Rozz and Iain's fun filled wedding last September is featured in the January edition of R Magazine, the Special Bridal Edition.

A small copy of the article is below, and you can see a readable version of it on pages 34-35 of the online edition of the magazine here, selecting the 'Eversion of R Magazine - January 2010'.

Their wedding was one of our favourites last year and, I think you can tell from the images in the article, Rozz and Iain had a lot of fun on their big day!

Wedding Photography Brigstock - Lisa and Paul are married!

Today was a lovely start to the new year as Lisa and Paul were married at St Andrew's Church, Brigstock, with a fabulous reception at Kettering Park Hotel.

It was a crisp, frosty morning, with a little flurry of 'real' snow immediately after their wedding, and some less real snow on arrival at Kettering Park!

Lisa and Paul will soon be enjoying their honeymoon somewhere a little warmer, but we hope that they get to see this 'sneak peak' of a few early favourites first, starting with Lisa's shoes (!):

Rutland and Market Harborough Living magazine

It's always good to get work published and I recently did some photography at Andrew Minarik's hair and beauty salon in Kibworth, for a makeover feature in the January edition of Rutland and Market Harborough Living magazine.

I photographed Linda earlier in the week for her 'before' image, and then in the salon after she had had her fantastic makeover.

You can see the published article in the online edition of the magazine, on page 21, and a feature on Nigel Ord-Smith Photography on page 9, with one of the images from Stephanie and Jon's lovely wedding in August.

Whoops, I haven't blogged for far too long and Christmas is now almost upon us.

It's been pretty hectic with, amongst other things, a number of portrait sessions and some lovely framed images, canvases and acrylics will next see the light of day on Christmas morning.

I can't give the game away by posting any of those images so here's a Christmas image that's featured on some of my Christmas cards:

Wedding photography, Noseley Hall - Lisa and Tristan are married!

Lisa and Tristan had a fabulous double celebration today. Not only were they married at Noseley Hall, but it was also Lisa's birthday. Very cunning of Tristan to only have one significant date to remember!

Heavy rain had been forecasted all week, but it turned out to be a gloriously sunny morning and after their wedding ceremony we managed to get everybody outside for the group photo, but it was soon back inside to the roaring fires before the rain came down.

Wedding Photography Coombe Abbey - Rachel and Robin are married!

Rachel and Robin were married today in the romantic setting of Coombe Abbey.

They married in the medieval surroundings of The Abbeygate, and were joined by family and friends, some travelling all the way from Australia, in The Cloisters for their wedding breakfast.

Christmas fairs and gift vouchers

Our brand new gift vouchers will be available this weekend at the Christmas Craft fair being held at Rushton Hall.

They are available for any amount that you would like to 'gift' , and can be put towards products and services from Nigel Ord-Smith Photography. An ideal present for Christmas!

Why not come along on Sunday to see some examples of our work? The fair opens and 10.00 am.

And there are a couple of other fairs coming up soon, both on Friday 27 November. During the day I shall be at Church Langton School, and in the evening at Harbrough Town Football Club's fair.

Lucie and Chris in Essential Weddings magazine

I'm delighted that Lucie and Chris' gorgeous wedding at Rockingham Castle at the beginning of July has been featured as a 'real life wedding' in the 2010 Essential Weddings magazine, one of the premier wedding magazines in the region.

The magazine was released at the wedding fair at Burghley House on Sunday. It's full of hints and tips for your wedding planning which I guess you'll know if you picked up a copy.

Anna and Stuart

After the recent sessions down south it was back a bit nearer to home on Monday when I caught up with Anna and Stuart at East Carlton Park.

They get married next summer at the fabulous Rockingham Castle and we caught up for an early pre-wedding portrait session to break the ice and get used to working together.

The autumn leaves were lovely and colourful and made a great setting.

We snatched a couple of days away recently, catching up with family and an all to brief drop in on Geoff and Suzanne and their lovely children, Niamh, Tara, Allanah, and Connell.

Geoff is an old, old friend (i.e. from a long time ago (schooldays!) and he's old!!), and we hadn't seen them for a little while. In fact, we hadn't seen them since I last took some pictures of them some three years ago.

A bit of catching up to do...and Christmas is coming

The last few weeks have been a bit hectic; designing some beautiful wedding albums for this summers brides (and grooms!), booking weddings for next year and beyond, and there have been quite a few portrait sessions.

I promise that I'll post some images before the end of the month, honest, but some you won't be seeing as some people will be getting some gorgeous images as Christmas presents.

On that subject, if you are scratching your head wondering what to get your significant other, family or friends for Christmas, how about a portrait session? And if there isn't time to fit in a session before Christmas why not buy a voucher and have the flexibility of holding your session early next year?

Wedding Photography Beaumanor Hall - Clare and Paul are married!

Congratulations to Clare and Paul who were married today at Beaumanor Hall, Woodhouse, in Leicestershire.

The weather stayed much kinder than expected and Beaumanor made an impressive location with its wonderfully ornate ceilings and galleried hallway.

They had a fabulous day and we left them shortly after their first dance with Paul having survived two best men's speeches with a further two to come (he had four best men!).
